about yoga
yoga is the act of calming the fluctuations of the mind (paradoxically demanding constant re-commitment)
yoga means yoke, binding a wheel that is forever meeting new ground
it has eight limbs:
yama (restraints)
niyama (observances)
asana (physical practice)
pranayama (breath practice)
pratyahara (withdrawal of the senses)
dharana (focused concentration)
dhyana (meditation)
samadhi (bliss)
asana - the physical practice - prepares the body for longer periods of sitting, so that the mind can be stilled - that is all. we move in order to be still.
aparigraha is the 5th yama (restraint) and means generosity or non-grasping, non-attachment, non-greed. we have chosen to name our collective after this principle because we are anti-capitalists and wish to cultivate shared joy rather than to cling to harmful notions of what constitutes a good life.
